Own perspective about Oedipus Rex

Oedipus Rex is a myth. It is the story which is unbelievable and can never happen in real life. This is a story of tragedy for the main character killed his own father and married his own mother.

In my own perspective, this is not true. Maybe this can happen in real life but nobody can tell or predict it. And a child can never marry his own mother because first, I believe in the connection or feeling of a mother towards her son which is called "lukso ng dugo" in Tagalog. I also believe that physical attributes can be a true measurement for you to recognize your real parents. This story is really unbelievable and can never happen in real life.

Interference of the gods with the lives of the mortals

In my own opinion, I really don't believe and agree with this thing because first of all, we have only one mighty God, no more, no less. There is no other God except Jesus, our King and Savior.

Yes, it is true that God is interfering with our lives because He is the only one who knows what is happening and what is going to happen to our lives. But then, with the situation of polytheistic belief, their faith is divided. They cannot focus on just one god. They worship so many gods and they believe that they should please all of them in order for them to have a good life. Unlike to us, Christians, we only believe in one God and all we have to do is to have faith in Him, repent for our sins and live up the word of God. I disagree with the belief of having many gods but I believe and agree that God interferes with our lives.

Anne Frank's sufferings in Auschwitz

Anne Frank was one of the Jewish people who died during Hitler's regime because of discrimination. She and her family went into hiding after the war broke out and all of the Jewish people has to be killed. Sadly, their hiding was discovered because a Nazi woman told the German police where they were hiding. They were brought to the Auschwitz camp where they experienced a lot of sufferings. Women were forcely separated from men and that was a very hard thing for Anne to do because she is very close to her father and her father is already like her best friend. Anne cried a lot during that time. After that, women had to be disinfected, tattoed on identification numbers and had their hair shaved off. Then, they were forced to do jobs that were intended for men like diging rocks, etc. She, together with her mother and sister, also became infected with a disease called Scabies. Food was also scarce and that was the cause of the death of Anne Frank's mother.

THE NAZIS' DISCRIMIMATION FOR THE JEWS

The Nazis were the people who were under Adolf Hitler's power. Adolf Hitler is a communist and he hates Jews. He blamed the Jews for Germany's sufferings. And because of this belief, his people also acted with this way. That caused the discrimination among the Jews especially during the time that Hitler's power was strengthened. Jews needed to distinguish themselves by wearing yellow stars, children need to go to schools intended for Jewish people only and some of the livelihood of the Jewish people were destroyed an ransacked; a clear depiction of DISCRIMINATION. This became worse when Adolf Hitler commanded that all of the Jews should be gathered, encounter sufferings and die. That was how ruthless the treatment for the Jews had been during the time of the Nazis and Adolf Hitler.

Christianity versus Chinese philosophies

"Christianity versus Chinese philosophies"

There are many types of teachings and religions in this world and each has their own patterns, way of living and beliefs. Let us take a look at two types of religion or belief in this world: and that is Christianity and Chinese beliefs. I believe that these two beliefs are really contradict to each other by their ways and philosophies.

Christianity means believing in Christ and having Christ in our lives as our personal lord an savior. Being a christian means having one God or being monotheistic. We also believe in the Trinity meaning that there is one God but appears in three persons. Christians also believe in the Bible where God's words are written. They also believe that there is one omnipotent, omnipresent and powerful God. This is the belief of Christianism.

On the other hand, Chinese philosophies has 3 aspects: Confucianism, Taoism and Legalism.
Each one of them has their own ways and beliefs. Confucianism beliefs are based on the teachings of Confucius. Taoism beliefs are based on the teachings of Lao Tu and Legalism beliefs are based on the teachings of Hanfeizi. That proves that Chinese people have many beliefs and religions which is very opposite to the belief and teachings of Christianity. Another example is the belief of Chinese people that inhabitants of this world should just go with the flow. That is very contradicting to the belief of the Christians because Christians are going and living against this sinful world.

Many are still debating about all of these teachings and beliefs but then, all I can say ais I'm blessed that I'm a Christian and I will never replace Christianism as my belief end religion with any other beliefs and religions in this world. ☺

Teachings of Taoism

TEACHINGS OF TAOISM

Taoism was founded by Lao Tzu. He created this philosophy so that people can be deeply related to the nature or his surroundings. It refers to the power which envelopes surroundings; all things living and non-living. Some of his teachings and quotations are:

- " Be still like a mountain and flow like a river" = means that we, people, should go with the flow. And that is also one of the main teachings of Taoism.
- " There would be no love without hate, no light without dark and no male without female." = means that for every thing (whether living or non-living), there is always an opposite side or part of it. That belief is also called the Yin-Yang.

These are some of the Taoism teachings and beliefs.

Teachings of Confucianism

THE TEACHINGS OF CONFUCIANISM

Confucius was the founder of confucianism. His real name was Kung Fu Tze. He implemented these teachings so that people can be educated and paople will learn how to live a fruitful, meaningful and organized life. Some of his teachings are:

- The "Golden Rule" which states that "do unto others what you want others do unto you". = means that what you sow is what you reap. So if you want others to do good to you, you should also act good towards your fellowmen.
- Development of human perfection through good acts.
- basic Confucian values (example: social and ritual propriety)
- being a "gentleman" (for boys) = example: offering a seat to a lady inside a bus.
- quotes which say: "the superior man is firm in the right way and not merely firm."= means that a man with dignity and integrity is firm in what he is saying and what he is doing because he know in his own self that what he is doing is right.
"the superior man is modest in his speech but exceeds in his actions."= means that action speaks louder than words so you should speak less and act more but should be in the right way.

These are some of the teachings of confucianism.

THE CASTE SYSTEM

THE CASTE SYSTEM

The caste system evolved from the Indians. It was built and formed because for the Indians, they need to become organized, developed and to have a proper social contact with each other. It is also built to distinguish Aryans from non-Aryans. Caste system is the classification of people based on their genes or heredity.

If you are going to ask me if it is democratic, for me it is not because upon forming it, a great barrier was formed between the upper class and the lower class of people. Slaves cannot socialize freely with others especially with the nobles and priests and they are given with less attention, rights and freedom. When it comes to the higher class, it is opposite because they are given much respect and privilege. There was also deprivation and demoralization because in this classification, there is a group which is called the "untouchables" or "outcasts". They are the people who do not belong to any caste and with that is the ignorance and deprivation of their rights and freedom in all aspects. Lastly, it is not democratic because as what i have said earlier, caste system is based on genetics and it is hereditary. That means if you are born as a slave, the rest of your descendants will become slaves too and you will not experience the luxury and freedom in life ever.

I am not in favor with this kind of social stratification.

EGYPTIANS' SOCIAL CLASSES
-- was divided into 5:
1. nobles and royal families
2. scribes
3. merchants, artisans and wealthy farmers
4. peasants
5. slaves

--the advantages of this social classification are:
1. The people during that time can recognize on which classification they belong to.
2. People who should be given with higher respect are given with that particular thing.
3. People who are educated and learned can emphasize their knowledge more because sometimes, those who are not highly classified are given with less attention.

-- the disadvantages of this social classification are:
1. People are not treated equally.
2. People who are poor are given with less respect and attention.
3. People who are on the higher class are abusive of their rights and power.
4. People who are on the lower classes are not given with enough rights.

-->> these are the advantages and disadvantages of the social classification in Egypt.

Tell me who your friends are, and I’ll tell you who you are.

"Tell me who your friends are, and I’ll tell you who you are."

this means that whoever we are going with and staying with everyday, their attitudes, characteristics and actions can also become ours too. For example, if we are with good and righteous people, then we are also good and righteous people because we will/can acquire who they are and what they are. With this, we should learn how to choose carefully the people we will go with.

Ampatuans not involved in killing of massacre witness—lawyer

MANILA, Philippines – A lawyer of the powerful Ampatuan clan insisted Friday that his clients were not in any way involved in the killing last week of a key witness in the Maguindanao massacre.

"Definitely, no. They have nothing to do with [the] killing of a man in Parang," Lawyer Philip Pantojan told reporters at a press conference in Makati City.

He said he only learned about the killing of witness Suwaib Upham, also known as Jesse, through the newspapers on his flight from Davao to Manila.

"We will study this. The Ampatuans will join the government in the speedy investigation of this case," Pantojan said.

He said they were studying every killing related to the Ampatuan case.

Arroyo approves retirement of Bangit

MANILA, Philippines – Armed Forces Chief of Staff Gen. Delfin Bangit will retire from the military effective Tuesday.

President Macapagal-Arroyo approved on Monday Bangit’s request for early retirement from the service, her spokesperson Ricardo Saludo said.

"As recommended by the AFP Board of Generals, the President has designated Vice Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Nestor Ochoa as Acting Chief of Staff after Gen. Bangit retires,'' Saludo said in a text message to reporters.

Bangit filed for early retirement last week after President-elect Benigno "Noynoy'' Aquino III made it very clear he did not wish to have him as his AFP chief.

The AFP chief had asked for his retirement to take effect on June 22 or ahead of his benefactor, Ms Arroyo, who steps down from power at noon of June 30.

Aquino and his camp had questioned earlier the appointment of Bangit which was made by Ms Arroyo on March 9, or a day before the ban on appointments.

Congress failed to act on the ad interim appointment of Bangit when it closed last month.

Bangit was supposed to retire in July next year.

PRESIDENT ARROYO WON'T ATTEND THE INAUGURATION OF PRES. NOYNOY AQUINO.

-- is this true? Well, there were rumors about that. My reaction about this is that I'm unhappy and a little bit confused. I'm unhappy because that inauguration can be one of the possible ways Pres. Gloria can make up with her wrongdoings by talking to and congratulating the newly-elect Pres. Noynoy Aquino. I'm a little bit confused because until now, the question "why would Pres. Gloria wouldn't attend the inauguration of Pres. Noynoy Aquino? Is she sour-graping? Or she can't take the feeling of being replaced by a person whom everyone knows that can do better than her?" I really don't know. But i do hope that in Pres. Aquino's inauguration, peace will dominate and hate will fade away. I also hope that revenge will be replaced by love and hope that our country can still survive and can make it through all of the struggles and hardships that will come.

noynoy aquino, the next president of the Philippines...

Noynoy Aquino is now the 15th president of the Republic of the Philippines. Are you satisfied? If you will ask me, yes I am. At first I wasn't but when I watched his interviews about his future plans and programs, I can say that he really deserves his victory and he is the kind of president that our country needs. I hope that his promises will not be broken and put into waste. May he give more attention on education and the health of the Filipinos. :)
